Would you like to her my conspiracy theory behind Slenderman? XD
To me, Slenderman is a being that feeds off of the people that fear him, and once his victim surrenders to him, they get killed by him.
If he were a real entity that found its way into our dimension, and the higher-ups found out (let's say, some secretive part of the FBI or something,) they would have to create a way to keep people from seeing him & getting killed by him.
And most people are freaked out when they first find out about him, and research him, a lot. So, with this kind of exposure and fear, people feel that they need to know more about the entity, in a way to gather intelligence by researching him, that way, they can live with the fact that he may or may not be real...which in most cases, people believe he is not - but the other small percentage, think he is, and easily become a victim.
So, what they had to do is somehow popularize him & expose him to the majority (by internet, stories, movies, etc.) And the first 'creation' forum was set up by higher-ups to begin the desensitization (for people) of this entity. That way, they become unafraid of him and become tolerant of his existence, with the comfort of knowing that he is just something created by a forum user to scare the crap out of people - which fades overtime to complete desensitization.
And for the people who don't know about the entity can be saved, but there are people that have actually seen him. And I know one person that has seen him, but has developed a defense mechanism to keep him from coming back. (I don't really want to go into that, though.) And this person doesn't do drugs, or anything of the like, either. And I'm going to be honest, I've seen him, too. I actually have the experience written out in one of my past journal entries, and I had a friend that witnessed him as well. (And again, we created a defense for him not to come back.)
